Got to hit the soccer field today for the first time this spring. Saw a good game where Festus and Windsor went through regulation and two overtimes to finally settle it in a shootout. Festus won 2-1 in the shootout to win the game 1-0.
Covered my first ever Tennis match today. Was interesting to learn to shoot a sport you have never watched nor played. There were a few talented youngsters on these teams that put on a good show.
I got the chance to drive a golf cart around and follow some inspiring young golfers on the course today. De Soto, Herculaneum, and Hillsboro played a scramble.
I covered a Hit, Pitch, and Run sponsored by the MLB and held locally. Some youngsters taking part from the community hoping to make it to the next round.
Got another baseball game in. Crystal hosting Festus in a cross town Rivalry. Home runs and close plays ruled today. My two favorite captures from the day are below. They shared the front page of the next weeks paper.
Todays game we were lucky to get in. Sunshine, and clouds, I was all over in ISO settings, from 200 all the way to 3200. Was a great game, came down to the final out being made at the plate where if the runner scored its a tie game, if he is out the game is over. Fox won.
Finally got some baseball in today, game was moved to Crystal City and the time was moved. Made my day a little crazier then needed, but hey we got a game in. Crystal defeated Windsor 11-7.
Covered a huge and long Track meet this week. Seems the rain only stops just long enough to get track in, but killing the baseball season. Very few assignments are actually being covered due to a very wet spring. Crystal City’s Precious Selmon won just about everything she entered very easily. I think she even set a record or two. Alyssa Allison of Festus still running extremely well finished almost 50 meters ahead of the next competitor in the 800m run.
Covered a double header at the local Juco today. Jefferson college and Mineral Area college battled each other and the cold and rain to get the games in. Here are a few images from the event.
Some of the toughest things for me to shoot is Track and Field. The events are scattered over a long way, they sometimes mix JV and Varsity(we usually only cover varsity), and getting correct ID’s can be tough as you have to chase down the athlete that you just photographed. Here are a few from the event held at Fox high school. It was cold but at least it wasnt pouring rain like it was last year.
